The first play I ever did was "Little Shop of Horrors." Have you seen it? Steve Martin and Rick Moranis did a movie version of it many years ago. The premise of the show is a little man gains a big reputation by feeding this plant from outer space that eats only....blood. He names the plant Aundrey II in honor of the girl he loves.
Throughout the play we learn that Audrey II (who has a voice like James Earl Jones) is always hungry. And he's always letting Seymore know by whispering, shouting, singing "Feed Me!"
Our soul does the same. Sometimes it is the flesh side of our personality begging for food - like gossip, cheating, impure thoughts. Other times, much more quietly, our spiritual side is asking to be fed through the scriptures, prayer and teaching. Which voice do you hear more often?
Romans 8:5 "Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires."
Feed your soul...and hunger no more.
Until next time,
The B.D.F.
